   Dimples grab the air and lift a spinning ball. Tilt that spin with an open or closed clubface and the lift leans sideways: that’s your slice. Polara makes the dimples around the equator shallower, to help convert slicing side spin into straight backspin

   Past the shallow band, the dimples deepen row by row toward the poles

   At each pole, a small dimple sits between every four deep ones. That keeps the ball rotating on the right axis

   A straight shot is pure backspin: the ball rotates vertically and flies straight down the fairway. When you aim the arrow at the target, the dimple patterns maximize the backspin so the ball wants to travel on that arrow
